Seven Essentials of Life to lead a balanced life.
Seven essentials of life to lead a balanced life.
Health and Disease are the body’s response to the survival process. Our lifestyle choices predominately determine the body’s response. These choices we call the the Seven Essentials of life to lead a balanced life and are:
1. What we eat
2. What we drink
3. How we exercise
4. How we rest
5. What we breathe
6. What we think (attitude)
7. What we believe in (philosophy of life)
HOLISTIC LIVING
What we can do for ourselves to enhance our health, vitality, awareness and general well-being will ensure that holistically; the mind-body-spirit and emotions are in balance and therefore we remain healthy.
DIET
What we eat and how we eat is important. Eating a variety of live, fresh and wholesome foods and taking care to combine them correctly will enhance our health. Processed foods contain additives and are prepared in a way that may be harmful to the body. Eat Moderate amounts of food. A calm mind, relaxed atmosphere will enhance the digestive process. Eating while upset can impair digestion. Food allergies are common and need to be considered. Sugar (the most common food additive), tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, and most drugs can be deleterious to our health. Remember, it’s our daily habits that count the most.
- Air and Breath
Respiration is a primary physiological function. The average lung capacity is five pints. Breathing is responsible for supplying nutrients (oxygen and other gases) and for the elimination of wastes from the body. Breathing with full, relaxed breaths is an effective means for neutralizing stress. Conscious breathing can enhance all aspects of ourselves.
- Water
The drinking of water is important for cleaning, maintenance, and proper elimination within the body. Eighty percent (80%) of the molecules in the body are water. Drnk water every day. Clean, pure water (spring water or distilled water) is usually better than tap water. Much of tap water is contaminated to some degree.
- Sunlight
Take time to be in the sunlight. Sunlight provides us exposure to a full spectrum of color and rays beneficial to us. The body naturally produces vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Over-exposure to the sun is not beneficial.
- Environment
The world that surrounds us affects each one of us. Each [person’s adaptability and tolerances vary greatly. You have control over your personal living environment.
The lighting you use, the materials of your clothing, the sounds that surround you, the smells, plants, animals and materials that make up your home all have an effect upon you.
The larger environment is the responsibility of each individual in the community and of society collectively. We can create an environment that will serve, support, and nurture us. We must realize that we are inseparable with all that surrounds us. We are also affected by those with whom we live and spend our time. We tend to take on the characteristics of those around us. We benefit when we choose those who inspire, support, respect and love us.
- Movement
If our bodies came with operating manuals, one of the first instructions would easily be “use it or lose it”. Twenty minutes of vigorous exercise at least three times a week is a must for long-term health. Brisk walking, swimming, and dancing are some of the best forms of exercise.
Stretching or yoga opens and strengthens your body/mind and serves as a good warm-up and cool-down with exercise.
There are many other types of movement awareness that are beneficial to health and expanded consciousness. Examples are tai chi, creative dance, meditation and martial arts.
- Rest
Adequate rest and sleep is essential to good health. The amount will vary amount individuals. Those maintaining a high level of vitality tend to need less sleep. Extended sleep deprivation can be hazardous to your well-being.
- Conscious Meditation and/or Relaxation
Let your mind rest (consciously). Let your body rest and relax (consciously). Take time to be aware of your breathing. Take 15-20 minutes each day to relax consciously. This time is excellent for use of imagery and affirmation. Erase old mental trauma, personal laws, basic assumptions, an thought patterns that do not now serve you.
- Thoughts and Attitudes – Beliefs
Your thoughts an attitudes affect every facet of your being. They determine the success or failure of everything else that you do. They determine the quality and fulfillment of your life.
The world you experience is built according to your mental patterns and images. Thoughts and attitudes are the foundation of your personal reality.
Negative thoughts produce negative results. Positive thoughts produces positive results. What we think about expands. What we think repeatedly becomes real.
Thought is creative and you are the thinker. The thinker in you is the creator of your reality and manifests whatever you believe to be true. You can control what you think. That which you imagine and conceive to be true becomes true. Change what you think is true and you change your reality. Wisdom, knowledge, health, love and prosperity all lay within reach of you and are, in fact, your natural state of being.
- Love
Love always heals if you let it. Love is the purest form of spirit that one can express or experience. Nothing is more powerful than unconditional love.

1. Remember to view your food before you eat it. Looking at it and seeing how enticing it looks is part of the experience.
2. Smell the food to engage the senses and enhance the experience.
3. Chew each bite 20 times before swallowing, getting all the taste of of the food. This also helps aide in digestion, which begins in the mouth.

2. Take time each day to take in all the beauty of the season. It may be just admiring the street decorations at a a stop light or going to the community Christmas Tree lighting or even just enjoying a cup of hot chocolate with the little ones. These moments are the joy of the holiday season.

Feeling Stressed? Ways to Calm the Mind
Feeling Stressed? The way we think and act may effect the way we experience stress. The following are 10 ways to help calm the mind:
Take a Walk (or your dog for one) Exercise can be a great stress reliever in itself, as it helps you de-stress & releases endorphins. Taking a walk provides the bonus of getting you out of the stressful situation and providing some perspective so you can return in a new frame of mind. Remember to look at the clouds, flowers, listen to the birds, etc. Be sure and get 20 minutes of sun everyday for vitamin D-3
Breathing Exercise If you are not in a position to leave, you can feel better right away by practicing breathing exercises. Getting more oxygen into your body and releasing physical tension are two ways that breathing exercises can benefit you and you can do them anytime and anywhere, even if your demanding situation isn’t letting up.
Take a mental Break If you can steal away a few minutes of peace, visualizations and guided imagery are a wonderful way to restore peace of mind. They’re easy to do and can relax you physically as well as mentally. “Pull up” that wonderful vacation you took to Hawaii, and all the wonderful memories with it.
Look at the “situation” differently Sometimes we intensify our experience of stressful situations by the way we look at them. (The mind magnifies whatever we put our attention on.) If you can look at your situation differently, you may be able to put it into a different perspective—one that causes you less stress! Mental and emotional stress can be caused by pessimism, or a negative attitude and other self-defeating thought processes.
